Sierra's Pro Pilot, fly/from Terminal Reality and, of course, Looking Glass's Flight Unlimited series have served to both attract newcomers to the genre and make things more presentable. In the last couple of years the civil aviation genre has exploded (not literally, that would be taking the realism aspects a bit too far). Some people may wonder what all the fuss is about in terms of the visuals, but I still feel the game looks pretty damn good. It was a game I spent a great deal of time with back in the day and I must say that it holds up pretty well today.

I know that these types of games are not for everyone, but I do feel that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 is one of the best out of the earlier games in this franchise. They had to have recorded tons of hours of actual footage from real airports as it all sounds very realistic. The sound effects have always been a strong point of this series and this game sounds fantastic. The whole game has been given a real shot in the arm in the visual department and I remember at the time it was released we had a very respectable PC, but when there was a lot of stuff on the screen, it would chug along a bit. There are lost more cities to fly over and there are also these amazing dynamic weather effects as well.
This is the mode I like to play when I am in the mood to just screw around with the game.Ī few of the major things that they added in to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 are first of all a ton more airports all over the world. I will say that playing with the keyboard is fine, but if you want the real deal experience one of those very expensive flight sticks is the way to go! There is also a free play mode which allows you to get into the cockpit of one of the many types of plane that the game has and just fly from point a to point b. It may take a while to get it down, but once you do, you have it for life and can probably then jump into any other game in the series. This is pretty fun and it does a good job of teaching you how the game actually works. However, I highly recommend that you play the tutorial first. I played the game with the keyboard and was able to do fine.
Learning To FlyĪs is the case with all games in this series, the learning curve here is very steep. There are a ton of different missions for you to do in the career mode and I really liked how Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 kept things fresh by making there be a lot of variety to them. Or, you may get stuck with a certain scenario such as having to fly through a dangerous thunderstorm. You can pilot a jumbo jet as you take people all over the world on their vacations and business trips. This mode is fantastic and you have many different options at your disposal here. The first thing that I want to talk about is the main single-player mode and that is the career mode.
